Protect Our Children—Support the NVIC To vaccinate or not to vaccinate is a question many parents are agonizing over these days. This is hardly surprising, considering the passionate debate this topic has generated.
In one corner we have vaccine proponents, which include most physicians, government agencies, pharmaceutical companies, and the mainstream media. The mere suggestion that “live-saving” immunizations may be linked to autism and other developmental disorders is anathema to this group. Furthermore, they feel that anyone who would opt for less aggressive vaccination schedules or forego them altogether are unfit parents who are putting other children at risk.
In the other corner are growing numbers of people who are questioning the status quo. These are the scientists who have studied the adverse effects of the biological agents and chemical cocktails that go into various vaccines. They’re the researchers who have compared the health of children in other developed countries who receive far fewer vaccines—and have a much lower risk of developing autism and other problems. And they’re the parents who have seen firsthand the damage that can come from routine childhood immunizations.
The National Vaccine Information Center (NVIC) is a nonprofit organization that has taken on the mission of disseminating unbiased information on vaccines. Founded in 1982, NVIC is the largest and most active organization advocating vaccine safety and parents’ right to informed consent in matters pertaining to their children. NVIC’s Web site (www.nvic.org) contains a wealth of information on scientific research, legal issues, and exemption.
